HODL – It started as a typo.
December 18, 2013. Bitcoin had just crashed 39% in a single day. On the BitcoinTalk forum, a user named GameKyuubi posted in all caps: "I AM HODLING." He meant holding. The typo stuck. The meme was born.
HODL became the one-word philosophy of Bitcoin. Not a trading strategy. Not a price target. A commitment. When the market panics, you hold. When nocoiners laugh, you hold. When the number goes down, you hold — because you understand what you're holding.
